Hate to resurrect an old post, but I bounced off Spacelords about two years ago and for some odd reason a bug flew in to my brain and made me think about it again. It'd make boss stages much more bearable.īut seeing as the game isn't getting any more updates, that's why I asked in the post why people still play antag, it just leads to a worse experience for the raiders especially with the current global player count. Let's say antag has 16 lives just like the raiders, and when you take out all their lives it says something like "The antagonist's onslaught has been stopped." Letting the team continue in their worse off state. ![]() There needs to be a serious rework to how antag plays, honestly just making it so they have limited lives would help tremendously. To that I ask them why? If it's such a good/core part of the experience, why would they have any trouble matching up with raiders?Īnd it's a simple fact that antags in their current state are just frustrating to deal with, and in many cases OP/heavily unbalanced. Whereas the only loss state for an antag is the raiders win.Īdd onto that the fact that antag has infinite lives, and it can lead to some pretty bad matches.Ī lot of what I see people say when you talk about adding a toggle or making antag optional is that antags would never get any matches. So basically, you're locked out of any decent games for potentially hours as you and your team get wiped over and over again.Ĭompound this with the fact that there are several loss states for raiders (objective wasn't complete, your team runs through all their lives, you get to the boss but get wiped by them and the antag.) ![]() This then becomes a toss up of whether or not you're going to be matched up with a player who's sunk hundreds of hours in the game and is running Rak with the explosive gun that has bouncing bullets as an example. ![]() My main problem with how it exists in the game right now is that - at least on Steam - there are about 9 players an hour. The antagonist feature breathes life into the game for players who have an interest in competitive 4v1 despite the odds being stacked against them. However, you might see a HIVE antagonist because she can be viable as an antagonist. You aren't going to see HIVE played on The Beast's Lair often because that is just a map she doesn't excel on. While you do have the option to "play who you want" it's clear that some raiders succeed on maps where others fail. In antagonist, you can play any character and enjoy the ability for your guns to do actual damage unscaled by MMR whereas playing raider enforces playing characters that can contribute to the overall mission. When you own all the characters you want, all the builds you created, all the guns you've crafted - replaying all the missions becomes grueling. The unfortunate reality about Antagonist is that for most players who near the 'end' of playing Spacelords, the Antagonist option is what invigorates a sense of accomplishment. The antagonist only gains rewards based off of the raiders "averaged" MMR. So it's actually more in favor for the raiders to win with an antagonist. Having an antagonist that raiders can kill repeatedly can actually increase your score at the end of the mission rewards because the game takes the Antagonists' MMR to reward you. The raiders can not only hear an audio cue to when the antagonist spawns but even the antagonist spawning animation emitting a orange energy can give away attempts at stealth. Sure, the antagonist can spawn endlessly and can take advantage of controlling where they want to spawn (to a limited degree) but the raiders will always have the advantage. Those same insane builds can be replicated and used to a much higher degree of success by raiders - and there are four of you versus one antagonist. It's clear that the developers want the Antagonist to remain a feature that stays within the game.ĭespite the complaints about the Antagonist, the game is heavily favored towards the raiders that the only Antagonists that are complained about are the successful ones. Antagonist is part of Spacelords and it has remained a part of Spacelords through multiple changes, patch notes, etc. The first reason is one that you'll hear often. Although i'm a player who enjoys playing antagonist more than raider, I'm going to try to break down why there are players who genuinely enjoy playing antagonist more than they do raider.
